SCOTT MILNE CHALLENGES U.S. SENATOR LEAHY TO FOUR TV DEBATES
Pomfret, VT (August 17, 2016) —Scott Milne today challenged Senator Leahy to at least four one-hour debates broadcast on each of Vermont’s television outlets – WCAX, WPTZ, Fox 44, and Vermont Public Television. Milne added that he would accept debates in any other public media sponsored forum, so long as Leahy agreed to participate in debates with these outlets given their wide audience reach.
“Senator Leahy’s Washington career has spanned five decades,” said Milne. It should not be too much to ask that he return to Vermont and spend less than one hour for each of those decades defending his record of taking millions of dollars in special interest campaign contributions in front of the largest possible audience of his constituents.”
To date, Leahy has rejected Milne’s challenge to run a campaign clean of special interest PAC contributions with spending caps. According to the Center for Responsive Politics, during this election cycle alone Leahy has raised $1.3 million in PAC contributions into his personal campaign account in addition to $2.3 million in PAC contributions into his federal leadership PAC.
